Kelsea Ballerini refuses to stay silent when confronted with criticism of her artistic performance. After facing accusations of lip-syncing during her appearance at the People’s Choice Country Awards on Thursday night (Sept. 28), the singer took to social media to clarify the situation.

Speculations arose when she took the stage to perform her song “Mountain With a View,” with some suggesting that she wasn’t singing live. Ballerini swiftly addressed these claims in a brief, direct video shared on her Instagram Stories.

“I just want to say, if I was lip-syncing, I would’ve sounded a lot better,” Ballerini retorted. “One of the cameras was off. Thank you and goodnight.”

But she didn’t stop there. In the subsequent slide, she posted a photo of herself, originally shared on her feed, tossing her hair and giving a defiant side-eye while placing her hand on her hip.

“Me singing live while watching people think otherwise,” she captioned the sassy photo.

“Mountain With a View” is featured on Ballerini’s most recent project, “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat,” which comprises songs written in the aftermath of her divorce from fellow singer Morgan Evans. The two were married for five years before parting ways.

While “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat” was nominated for Album of 2023 at the awards show, the honor ultimately went to Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time.”

Ballerini also received nominations in categories like Female Artist (won by Lainey Wilson), Social Country Star (won by Blake Shelton), and the evening’s most prestigious award, People’s Artist (which was awarded to Wallen).
