At the upcoming event, alongside McEntire, Post Malone is set to deliver a rendition of “America the Beautiful,” while Andra Day will showcase her vocal talent with “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Reba McEntire is fully prepared for her upcoming performance at Super Bowl LVIII.
The renowned country artist is set to sing the National Anthem prior to the significant event in Las Vegas this Sunday. In a recent interview with Apple Music, she revealed that she’s been gearing up for the performance in a very familiar manner.
“I’ve been practicing the National Anthem while in the shower and during our drives,” shared McEntire, 68, mentioning her car trips with her boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, who happens to be a “huge football fan.”
“He’ll often say, ‘Alright, give it one more round.’ And I’ll respond, ‘I reckon I’ve got the words down pat by now, so I’m good,'” added the Grammy-winning artist regarding her preparation routine. She noted that it’s comforting to “know that everybody’s gonna be singing it with me” at Allegiant Stadium.
“If I’m aware they’re joining in, remembering, and enjoying themselves, it makes it easier for me. But it’s essential to be fully prepared when stepping out there,” expressed McEntire, who has been performing the National Anthem at sporting events since her teenage years.
In another segment of the interview, the “Fancy” vocalist expressed her profound gratitude for the opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl for the first time, conveying that she feels “honored beyond words.”
“I have the privilege of singing a profoundly meaningful song for all Americans, as well as people worldwide, who have tirelessly worked for our freedom and to uphold peace,” she shared with Apple Music host Nadeska Alexis. “It’s not about me — I merely serve as the embodiment of this song, and I’m incredibly privileged to be able to perform it. It holds a special place in my heart. Having sung it for 50 years, I’m truly proud to have this opportunity.”
McEntire’s attendance at Sunday’s game will mark only her second time ever being present at a Super Bowl. Her previous experience was witnessing the Dallas Cowboys face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Mountain America Stadium (formerly known as Sun Devil Stadium) in Tempe, Arizona, back in 1996.
Now, she’s particularly thrilled because Super Bowl LVIII is taking place in one of her beloved cities. “I adore Las Vegas. My initial visit was back in ’83 with the Statler Brothers, where we opened for them at the MGM Grand,” shared McEntire. “[The Super Bowl] has never been held in Nevada before, so this is a first for many aspects, and I’m absolutely delighted to be a part of it.”
The musician behind “I’m a Survivor” also revealed her plans for enjoying Las Vegas after the Super Bowl: “Eat. Catch as many shows as possible, indulge in the spectacular food, and perhaps do a bit of shopping.”
Alongside McEntire’s rendition of the national anthem, Post Malone will present “America the Beautiful,” and Andra Day will deliver “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at Super Bowl LVIII, with Usher headlining the halftime show.
