“The first person to show me kindness at an award show was Reba McEntire,” Yearwood recalled.
Trisha Yearwood has always cherished her bond with Reba McEntire.
On Monday, March 24, Yearwood received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During her speech, she reflected on her meaningful friendship with McEntire, who attended the event as a guest speaker.
“The first artist who showed me kindness at an award show was Reba McEntire — she truly embodies friendship and grace,” said Yearwood, 60, before sharing a touching memory.
Recalling the moment, Yearwood revealed that McEntire had sent her flowers at her very first award show. “No one even knew I was back in the dressing room, so I assumed they were from my mom and dad,” she said. “When I realized they were from Reba, I thought, ‘Oh, wow.’ I’m so grateful that over time, we’ve grown from colleagues to friends who get to spend time together.”
Yearwood went on to address a common misconception about women in country music, emphasizing the supportive nature of the industry.
“The reality is, we’re all rooting for one another and standing together,” Yearwood explained. “For example, women from every era of country music are united in their support for each other.”
When Reba McEntire took the stage, she reflected on her first encounter with Yearwood at the ACM Awards.
“After the show, we went to the party, and I stopped by to sit with you and your mom,” McEntire recalled. “I remember thinking, ‘I love her already — she’s sitting with her mom.’ Since my mom and I were very close too, that really resonated with me. Plus, your sharp sense of humor won me over right away.”
McEntire went on to express how much her bond with Yearwood has meant over the years.
“Our friendship means everything to me because women on the road need a friend,” she said. “In the country music world, we stick together — we laugh, we vent, and we share things you just can’t with anyone else. No one else truly gets it.”
“I love you with all my heart — congratulations,” McEntire concluded warmly.
In addition to McEntire, Carly Pearce also spoke at the event. Throughout the ceremony, Yearwood’s husband, Garth Brooks, remained by her side, showing his support.
