The Band Perry has returned.
More than nine years after their last release and following an official hiatus in 2023, the group—now consisting of original member Kimberly Perry and her husband, Johnny Costello—unveiled their new single, Psychological, on February 13.
Perry, who founded the band with her brothers Reid and Neil and rose to fame in 2010 with the No. 1 hit “If I Die Young,” describes this new chapter as “Band Perry season 2.”
“There have been a lot of changes over the years,” Perry, 42, said, referencing her brothers’ departure to pursue individual projects. “From hair changes—bleach blonde to jet black—to shifts in musical style, one thing has always remained: this has been a family band rooted in the Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee.”
She explains that Reid now works in artist management, while Neil is focusing on solo material. Perry added, “Country music allows you to grow and evolve, and I’m excited to carry the Band Perry legacy forward into a chapter that feels relevant and exciting for 2026.”
In this new era, Costello plays multiple instruments while Perry continues as lead vocalist. The couple share a 2-year-old son, Whitaker James. Perry joked about including her son in future iterations of the band: “We tell him there might be a season 3 of The Band Perry, and he just says, ‘No, mama, race car. Race car driver.’”
Costello revealed that his decision to join Perry professionally began with a benefit show after Hurricane Helene. “We wanted to help our hometown families whose insurance wouldn’t cover the damage. Kimberly asked me to play the smallest instrument in the band, and I said, ‘Let’s go,’” he recalled.
