Miley Cyrus Admits She Picked Up a “Bad Habit” from Godmother Dolly Parton, but Calls It “Actually Good Advice”

By Website Content Manager

In a recent Variety interview, Cyrus revealed that following Parton’s advice played a role in shaping the upcoming Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.

Miley Cyrus takes her godmother Dolly Parton’s advice seriously.

In a recent Variety cover story, Cyrus discussed how embracing one of Parton’s philosophies helped bring about the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, set to premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on Tuesday, March 24.

“I picked up this terrible habit—but honestly, it was good advice—from Dolly,” the 33-year-old Grammy winner told the outlet. “She told me if you want something to happen, start promoting it before it exists. Then no one can say no.”

Cyrus followed that guidance last year, teasing a “special” for the 20th anniversary of her iconic Disney Channel show even before any plans were in place. “So I just started promoting a Hannah Montana 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist,” she admitted.

She explained that even Disney sometimes forgets the lasting connection between her and Hannah Montana. “It’s not just a TV show. I see every day how important Hannah is to people,” she said. Fans often bring her merchandise and ask if another season will ever happen.

Noticing the excitement around the 20th anniversary, Cyrus pitched the idea to Disney: “I’m telling you, this would be huge,” she recalled saying.

The special will include performances of “This Is the Life” and “The Best of Both Worlds” from the original series, as well as “The Climb” from the 2009 film, along with a new song, according to Variety.

Cyrus will also be interviewed by Alex Cooper of Call Her Daddy and reunite with her father and Hannah Montana co-star Billy Ray Cyrus, plus guest star Selena Gomez.
