“The track drops ahead of Moroney’s upcoming album and her first international headlining tour.”
Megan Moroney thrilled fans today by releasing the title track from her third studio album, Cloud 9. The new song drops just days before the album’s official release on February 20, serving as a perfect kickoff to what promises to be an exciting month for the Georgia singer-songwriter.
With “Cloud 9,” Moroney shifts from her signature tales of heartbreak and emotional ups and downs to celebrate the lighter, more exhilarating side of love. The change in tone is immediate, with a dreamy hook that had teased listeners for weeks now expanding into a full story that sets the vibe for the entire album.
Co-written with Luke Laird, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Ernest Keith Smith, the song captures the giddy, head-over-heels feeling of being completely enchanted by someone. The love she describes is pure bliss—think “walking on sunshine” and “stars in my eyes”—making daily stresses feel insignificant.
In the opening verse, she sings:
“Waitress asked me, ‘Is Pepsi fine?’ I wanted a Coke but said ‘It’s more than alright’ / And the rush-hour traffic, no it can’t get to me / The TV’s talking, some more bad news / And the neighbors upstairs always party ’til two / But who cares, oh well / I woke up next to you.”
The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a love so consuming that nothing else seems to matter. Yet Moroney acknowledges that this euphoric feeling comes with its risks—if the relationship were to falter, the return to reality would be a steep drop.
Musically, the song builds gently through the verses before the chorus introduces layered instrumentation and a mid-tempo beat that reflects the joy and exhilaration of being in love. Throughout, Moroney’s signature raspy vocals shine, allowing the track to float effortlessly, living up to its “cloud nine” title.
She sings:
“I’m walking on sunshine, holding your hand / You’re putting stars in my eyes like no one else can / You get me high high high / You give me that look, I’m floating on air / Nothing else matters with your hands in my hair / I never want to leave where we are now / It’s a long, long way way down / Down to cloud nine.”
“Cloud 9” is the fourth single released from Moroney’s 16-track album. Previous previews include “Wish I Didn’t,” the GOLD-certified Country radio No. 1 hit “6 Months Later,” and the Billboard Hot 100-charting “Beautiful Things.”
