Moroney asked herself, “What would Dolly Parton do?”
Megan Moroney made waves this Halloween with her impressive recreation of Dolly Parton’s legendary 1978 Playboy cover.
She went all-in on the costume, wearing a strapless corset teddy paired with bunny ears, a bowtie, and feathered heels. Moroney even replicated the slightly eerie Easter Bunny prop from Parton’s original photoshoot. To complete the throwback, she applied a vintage-inspired filter to her photos, perfectly capturing the late ’70s aesthetic.
Her look quickly went viral, drawing reactions from fans and fellow country artists alike. Kenny Chesney quipped, “We could have gone as Kenny and Dolly. Haha,” while Logan Crosby chimed in with, “u icon u.”
The post gained hundreds of thousands of likes, with fans praising Moroney’s outfit as “iconic.”
Dolly Parton’s famous Playboy cover was first released in October 1978—47 years ago—making her the first country artist ever to appear on the magazine’s front page. True to her values, Parton ensured the photoshoot reflected her own standards, with no nudity involved.
Reflecting on the experience, Parton once said, “I was asked back in the day, but that was totally not me. I would never do that… It was a good article they ran, and it was just a fun thing to do. It was another way I was trying to market myself and break into the mainstream.”
Decades later, in 2021, Parton recreated the iconic look at 75 years old as a surprise for her husband, Carl Dean’s birthday.
“You’re probably wondering why I’m dressed like this,” she said in a video message, donning bunny ears, a black strapless outfit, gloves, and a pink-and-white bowtie. “Remember when I said I was going to pose for Playboy when I turned 75? Well, I’m 75, and they don’t have the magazine anymore—but my husband always loved the original cover.”
She added with a laugh, “I was trying to think of something to make him happy. He still thinks I’m a hot chick after 57 years, and I’m not going to argue with him about that.”
In classic Dolly style, she joked that her updated version of the Playboy cover featured “the new Dolly.” “On the first one, I was kind of a little butterball,” she quipped. “Now I’m string cheese—but I hope he still thinks I’m cream cheese.”
