Maren Morris, whose divorce from ex-husband Ryan Hurd was finalized in January, is preparing to release her new EP titled ‘Intermission’.
Maren Morris, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, is currently embracing independence. Recently, she released “I Hope I Never Fall in Love,” a raw and honest track from her upcoming EP, Intermission. In the midtempo song, Morris candidly expresses her reluctance towards romance, reflecting on the challenges of past relationships. The chorus resonates with her resolve: “I hope I never fall in love / Hope I never fall in love again / You can count on that.”
In her latest track, Maren Morris delves into her determination to steer clear of intense romances following the hurtful aftermath of a previous relationship. She boldly declares on the bridge, “I’m a woman of my word / Love, you only did me dirty / Forever was a f—in’ lie, so goodbye / You only made it worse.”
The release of “I Hope I Never Fall in Love” comes after Morris finalized her divorce from ex-husband Ryan Hurd in January. She marked the song’s debut with an Instagram post, where she candidly discussed her complex feelings about love in the caption, revealing a deeper layer to her emotions beyond what’s expressed in the song.
Maren Morris shared on Instagram that “i hope i never fall in love” reflects the aftermath of a tumultuous experience. As a mother to 4-year-old Hayes with her ex-husband Ryan Hurd, she described the song as a bittersweet reflection of being in self-protection mode while still yearning for emotional connection. She mentioned coping mechanisms like throwing parties, spontaneous encounters, and celebrating with champagne as part of the healing process, acknowledging that healing isn’t always straightforward or pretty.
While she expressed a desire to love again, Morris admitted she’s not ready to risk her heart just yet. She described the song as a reflection of this complex phase in her life, where she navigates between wanting to feel and protecting herself.
Recently, Morris kicked off the Intermission era with “Cut!”, a collaboration with Julia Michaels, exploring the contrast between appearing polished on the surface and feeling emotionally turbulent in private.
Maren Morris explained that “Cut!” reflects her efforts to maintain composure during the day, presenting herself as well-rested and flawless without cancelling plans with friends. She admitted that while these appearances might be true, at night, she allows herself to be vulnerable and release pent-up emotions.
She described the song as a cathartic experience, providing permission to express her inner turmoil openly, despite societal pressures to always appear composed.
Morris’s EP, Intermission, is scheduled for release on August 2 via Columbia Records.
