Texas-born Miranda Lambert made a striking entrance at Bonnaroo, wearing a custom, embellished T-shirt featuring lyrics from Luke Combs’ 2020 hit “Lovin’ On You.” She completed her festival-ready outfit with a denim mini skirt, classic cowboy boots, a wide-brimmed cowboy hat, and a bold belt buckle.
After greeting each other with a warm hug, Lambert and Combs launched into their heartfelt duet, “Outrunnin’ Your Memory,” a track from Combs’ Growin’ Up album. The emotionally charged song was co-written by the pair alongside songwriter Dan Isbell.
The lyrics dive into the struggle of moving on from a past relationship, with both singers admitting that forgetting an old flame is easier said than done:
“Outrunnin’ your memory is like outrunnin’ the wind / I can’t get where I’m going if I can’t leave where you’ve been / I see you in every sunset, every star in the sky / I hear you callin’ my name in the middle of the night / The longer gone I get on down the road / Reminds me baby, that there just ain’t no / Outrunnin’ your memory.”
Combs has previously praised Lambert, saying, “Honestly, I think she’s not just one of the best artists and songwriters of our generation—but of all time.”
After their moving duet, Combs stepped aside to let Lambert shine solo as she performed her breakout hit, “Kerosene.”
Later in the show, Jon Bellion joined Combs on stage. The two performed their newly released collaboration, “Why,” giving fans yet another memorable moment from the night.
While Bonnaroo has welcomed a number of country acts in recent years—such as Kacey Musgraves, Kip Moore, and the Zac Brown Band—Combs made history this year as the festival’s first-ever country headliner. He leads a diverse weekend lineup that also features Tyler, The Creator on Friday, Olivia Rodrigo on Saturday, and Hozier on Sunday.
