Miranda Lambert Helped Lainey Wilson Unwind — and She Ended Up Sleeping for 13 Hours

Miranda Lambert has proven to be a true friend to Lainey Wilson.

In a conversation with Southern Living’s Sid Evans on the Biscuits & Jam podcast, released on October 7, the “Watermelon Moonshine” singer opened up about how her collaboration with Lambert on “Good Horses” came together — and how the country superstar also gave her a much-needed break during a hectic year.

“That was the year I was running nonstop,” said Wilson, 33. “I think I only slept in my own bed about 15 nights.”

She recalled that during one of her brief stays in Nashville, Lambert reached out with an unexpected invitation. “Miranda called me and said, ‘Come out to my farm — there’s barely any cell service. I want you to take a nap, and we’ll feed you,’” Wilson said, adding with a laugh, “Her husband’s an amazing cook.”

Wilson accepted the offer — and ended up crashing for 13 hours straight. “They actually came to knock on the door because they were worried about me,” she joked.

The extended nap apparently sparked creativity. Wilson said she’d been holding onto the idea for “Good Horses” after watching an episode of Yellowstone — a show she loved even before becoming part of its cast.

The song ultimately appeared on Wilson’s 2024 album Whirlwind, released in August. Earlier that same year, she and Lambert also teamed up with Reba McEntire for the empowering track “Trailblazer.”

Reflecting on her friendship with Lambert, Wilson said the two share a deep connection and “have so much in common,” particularly their mutual appreciation for the Western lifestyle.

“We both love coming home, grounding ourselves, and refilling our cups so we can go back out and pour them out again,” she said.

Wilson added that Lambert often reminds her to slow down and reconnect with simple joys: “She’s always been that voice in my ear saying, ‘You can’t do it all. You’ve got to come home, saddle your horse, scoop the poop — do the things that make everything else worthwhile.’”

In a press release following the release of “Good Horses,” Wilson said that writing with Lambert and Luke Dick “felt like home” and that she would “always treasure that day.”

“‘Good Horses’ is about finding your way home, no matter where you are,” Wilson explained.

Lambert echoed that sentiment, describing the song as a tribute to freedom and belonging. “‘Good Horses’ is for everyone who loves the comfort of home but still needs room to roam,” she said. “Lainey and I wrote it at my farm with Luke Dick, and I just adore her. She’s genuine and real, and it’s been amazing watching her dreams come true — I’m honored to be a small part of it.”
