Kelsea Ballerini Halts Concert to Address Fans Criticizing Ex-Husband Morgan Evans: ‘We’re 3 Years Past It’

Fans don’t need to put down Morgan Evans to show their support for Kelsea Ballerini.
Currently on tour for her latest album, Patterns, the country star addressed the crowd during her performance of Penthouse at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Fla., on Feb. 23, after hearing negative remarks about her ex-husband.
The song, from her Rolling Up the Welcome Mat EP, reflects on the aftermath of a breakup, and fans passionately sang along to its emotional bridge: “It hurts putting s— in a box / And now we don’t talk / And it stings rolling up the welcome mat / Knowing you got half.”
In a TikTok video captured by an attendee, Ballerini paused mid-performance after fans yelled obscenities following the “you got half” lyric and addressed the crowd directly.
“Guys, we have to stop saying that,” she told the audience.
According to fans in the comments section, some had shouted profanities aimed at Evans during the brief pause after the lyric.
“Seriously, we’re three years past it, everything’s fine now,” Ballerini added.
The singer filed for divorce from Evans in August 2022 after nearly five years of marriage.
“I sing the song for you now, it’s not about me anymore, please,” Ballerini told the audience, urging them to move forward. “Alright, for everyone that’s moving forward with their life, will you sing this with me?”
Her Patterns tour continues with a stop at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, on Feb. 26. From there, she’ll perform in cities including Seattle, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and more before concluding on April 13 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
Ballerini, known for Cowboys Cry Too, is currently in a relationship with actor Chase Stokes. The couple first sparked dating rumors in January 2023 and made their red carpet debut at the CMT Awards in April 2023.
