On Sunday, May 18, Jelly Roll and Eminem performed their 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” together for the crowd at Ford Field.
Jelly Roll surprised fans in Detroit by bringing out hometown rapper Eminem during a concert.
On Sunday, May 18, during the Big Ass Stadium Tour stop at Ford Field featuring Jelly Roll and Post Malone, Eminem made an unexpected appearance.
While Jelly, 40, was performing Eminem’s iconic track “Lose Yourself,” the 52-year-old rapper joined him on stage for the final verse, delivering an electrifying rendition of the 2002 hit.
“Detroit, what’s up?! Give it up for Jelly Roll!” Eminem shouted to the crowd before leaving the stage. “It’s been a while. Love you all. Peace!”
After Eminem’s surprise appearance, Jelly Roll told Billboard, “If you couldn’t tell, that was a childhood dream come absolutely true, Detroit. This has been the best show of my entire life.” He also shared that Eminem’s music helped him get through some of his toughest times.
On Monday, May 19, Eminem posted on Instagram, “Detroit, thanks for showing my friend @jellyroll615 so much love!!! 🙏 Great to see y’all,” celebrating their joint appearance. The two artists previously collaborated on the 2024 track “Somebody Save Me” from Eminem’s album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
When their collaboration was released, Jelly Roll praised Eminem, saying, “I’ve always said my childhood heroes were somewhere between Willie Nelson and Eminem. As a teen—and even now—I could recite every song from The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, and The Eminem Show.” He shared on Instagram in July how Eminem’s music was a guiding force during his youth.
Recalling his own struggles, Jelly said, “After getting out of jail at 17, I’d sneak into Nashville freestyle battles where they’d play the ‘Lose Yourself’ beat when I hit the stage.” He added that he connected deeply with Eminem’s lyrics and felt understood in a way he rarely had before.
He went on to describe the emotional impact of Eminem sampling his song “Save Me” on the new album, noting, “When I heard Eminem was using my song to explore what might have happened if he had let his demons win, it brought me to tears.”
Jelly Roll and Eminem also performed together in 2024 at the Live From Detroit: The Concert held at Michigan Central, where they sang “Sing for the Moment.”
