“We really had a blast making this one,” Aldean admits.

Jason Aldean has released the cinematic and emotionally charged music video for “How Far Does a Goodbye Go,” featuring a co-starring role by his wife, Brittany.

The video, infused with a retro, ‘70s-inspired aesthetic, immerses viewers in a nostalgic setting where Aldean and Brittany play a couple struggling with tension and emotional distance. To process his feelings, Aldean turns to his guitar, seen sipping a drink and jotting down lyrics on a napkin that will eventually lead him into the studio with his band.

Dressed in vintage, hipster-style outfits, Aldean belts out the song while exchanging cigarette puffs, his performance highlighting the raw pain between them. Meanwhile, Brittany’s character erupts with emotion, throwing objects, collapsing on the bed, and letting her frustration spill out in real time.

The tension reaches a peak when she pauses at the sound of his voice outside her door, mascara streaked down her face, as he sings the very lyrics that reflect their shared heartache. Despite this moment of connection, she ultimately packs her bag and walks away.

Ahead of the video’s official debut, Aldean teased the project on social media, commenting, “We had some fun with this one.”

Written by Kurt Allison, John Edwards, Tully Kennedy, and John Morgan, “How Far Does a Goodbye Go” tells the story of a man grappling with the uncertainty of an unexpected heartbreak. The song captures his emotions after learning that his partner has left to spend time at her mother’s, needing space to clear her head.

Initially, she promised they would work things out, but “four days and three nights” later, he’s left alone with only his thoughts, a bottle, and a pack of cigarettes. The lyrics explore his struggle to understand whether their separation is temporary or permanent.

In the chorus, he questions, “How far does a goodbye go / Is it down to a corner bar / Or outta town in a getaway car… / Is it a couple miles away coming up the road or on a midnight train on a runaway track / How far does a goodbye go / Till it don’t come back,” conveying the depth of his uncertainty.

The track’s retro vibe complements the aesthetic of the video, harkening back to Aldean’s early Georgia-inspired hits like The Truth and his Wide Open era.

“How Far Does a Goodbye Go” is climbing the country radio charts and will be featured on Aldean’s upcoming studio album, Songs About Us, set to release on April 24. The 20-track collection will also include his recent singles “Hard to Love You,” “Lovin’ Me Too Long,” and “Help You Remember,” along with his take on David Lee Murphy’s “Dust on the Bottle” featuring Murphy, the album’s title track with Luke Bryan, and a long-awaited duet with his wife, Brittany, called “Easier Gone.”
