“I’m grateful for the charts, the streams, and the awards—they’re all wonderful. But at the core, what truly defines success for me is faithfulness.”
Since stepping into the spotlight at 17, Gabby Barrett’s life has moved at full speed. She first captured attention on American Idol, where she also met her future husband, Cade Foehner. From there, her career took off, and alongside her musical success, she embraced the role of raising three children before turning 25. Throughout all the chaos, Barrett has remained grounded, crediting her faith as the anchor that continues to shape her understanding of success.
During a conversation on The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, joined by her husband, Barrett reflected on her whirlwind journey. When asked how she manages to balance so much with grace, she admitted it all comes down to faith: “By the grace of God, I just take it day by day. That is all that I can do. If I think too far down the line, it just doesn’t work out very well for me.”
Barrett was honest in saying there’s no perfect formula for juggling concerts, motherhood, and family life. While it hasn’t been easy, she explained that leaning on her faith has given her the strength to keep going.
“I trust the Lord to keep me on the right path. He knows my heart is toward my children, my family, and my husband first,” she shared. “I believe He has sustained me in that, and I’m continually working on reframing my mindset.”
To stay centered, Barrett often asks herself: “What does success really mean for me?” This perspective has helped her recognize that while accolades, chart positions, and streaming numbers hold value, they aren’t what ultimately define her.
“I’m grateful for the charts, the streams, the awards—all of it. But when it comes down to it, my definition of success is faithfulness,” she explained. “How am I treating people? What am I singing about? What example am I setting for my kids? Am I honoring God in what I do? Those are the things that matter most to me.”
Still, she admitted that maintaining this outlook isn’t always easy in such a competitive, fast-paced industry: “It’s always a work in progress. But I’ve had to reframe success as being faithful with what God has given me, instead of focusing only on the numbers, money, and awards.”
Barrett credits her deepening faith to her relationship with Cade, which began in 2018. Early on, Cade gave her a Bible—an act she says completely shifted her perspective. “I can’t even explain it, but it felt like a switch flipped in my mind. God’s been guiding us ever since.”
As their relationship grew, so did their shared faith, which shaped the way they approached their future. They had honest conversations about balancing music careers with marriage and family life. “We both wanted our relationship to work, but we knew it couldn’t if we were just living separate lives and crossing paths once in a while,” Barrett recalled. “I wanted to be a mother, I wanted kids. So, it made sense to do it together.”
