Darius Rucker Says Time in London Sparked Fresh Inspiration for New Album
Though Darius Rucker remains deeply rooted in his Southern upbringing, a recent move to London brought a fresh wave of inspiration for his upcoming music.
The country star opened up to PEOPLE during the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, where he shared how the new surroundings helped him stay creatively energized as he works on his next studio album — a follow-up to 2023’s Carolyn’s Boy.
“I’m deep into making the album — my new single should be out soon — and I’m excited for fans to hear what’s coming,” he said. “Finishing this record has been a fun process. It feels fresh, it feels new, and I think people are going to be really into it.”
Rucker explained that relocating overseas brought a creative shift. “I headed to London just to get a new perspective,” he said. “And I think it worked — the sound we’ve created reflects that. I really believe listeners will enjoy what we’ve put together.”
Beyond music, Rucker has also been exploring his passion for wine. Last year, he partnered with winemaker Chris Radomski to launch As One Cru wines — a venture that has allowed him to flex his creativity in a new way.
“These days I’m drinking a lot of red wines — maybe because I’m living in Europe and they’re so accessible,” he joked.
Rucker credits the partnership’s success to the people behind the brand. “The best part about joining the wine world is being involved with people who are great at what they do,” he said. “They’ve never asked me to do more than I’m comfortable with, and they let me contribute in the ways that make the most sense.”
As One Cru, known for its bold red blends sourced from the West Coast, immediately resonated with the singer. “It’s really simple for me — I either love something or I don’t,” Rucker said. “And from the first time I opened a bottle of As One Cru, I was hooked. That’s why I joined.”
The company, Rucker added, is built on camaraderie and shared passions: “It’s just a group of guys who love wine, love food, and enjoy each other’s company.”
As he prepares for his 2025 tour, which kicks off July 10 in Solomons, Maryland, Rucker plans to bring that spirit of enjoyment on the road — along with a few staples.
“I’m really looking forward to the tour,” he said. “Hitting the road and playing for fans is always a blast. As for what I need on the bus? It’s pretty simple — beer, bourbon, and of course, some wine. We’re creatures of habit at this point.”
