Adam Levine Dubs Himself ‘Captain Country’ After Landing a Triple-Turn on The Voice: Plans to Call Blake

Hunter Jordan sang Billy Currington’s “Let Me Down Easy” during his Blind Audition.

Is Adam Levine becoming the go-to coach for country artists on The Voice?

On the March 2 episode of the hit singing competition, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine scored his first country contestant of the season—and he clearly savored the win.

22-year-old Hunter Jordan took the stage for his blind audition hoping to join Kelly Clarkson’s team, but Levine quickly changed his mind. Jordan performed Billy Currington’s Let Me Down Easy and earned a three-chair turn. Levine, 46, was the first to speak.

“I know greatness when I hear it. I’m not ‘Captain Country.’ I’m not Blake,” Levine joked, referencing friend and longtime Voice coach Blake Shelton. “What’s going to happen today is I’ll help a country singer blaze a trail—something no one has done before. We all want to blaze trails, don’t we?”

Levine encouraged Jordan to “resist the urge to go with the status quo” and to do something no country artist has done before. “You’re going to shake things up. It’s going to be television gold—but more importantly, Hunter gold, because it’ll boost your career,” he said. He later added, “Today’s the day I will get a country singer on my team.”

While Clarkson, 43, and John Legend also made their pitches, Jordan ultimately chose Levine. “I think I’m going to blaze a path with Adam,” he said, prompting Levine to collapse dramatically to the floor.

In a confessional, Levine admitted he went “fully insane” over Jordan, explaining the singer deserved a fight—and because “I always lose country artists.” He later quipped, “I am now ‘Captain Country,’ or at least ‘Admiral Country.’ I can’t believe this. I’m going to call Blake.”

Jordan shared why he deviated from his original plan to join Clarkson. “I thought I wanted to pick Kelly, but I just felt a connection with Adam. It felt like the right choice for me,” he said.
