“At that moment, THE THUNDERBIRDS ensured our safe exit from the SuperBowl,” Shelton tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani received special assistance to depart the Super Bowl.

The 47-year-old “God’s Country” artist and his 54-year-old wife, the No Doubt rocker, unveiled their new duet “Purple Irises” during a live performance at a Super Bowl LVIII TikTok Tailgate event in Las Vegas. It appears they required some help exiting the game.

On Sunday night, Shelton shared a photo on X (formerly known as Twitter) showing himself and his wife surrounded by members of the United States Air Force’s Thunderbirds, all dressed in uniform.

Shelton captioned the photo, “That time THE THUNDERBIRDS ran security to get us out of the SuperBowl.” He added, “You can’t make this up. Thanks y’all!!!! #SuperBowlLVIII.”

During their performance on Sunday, Shelton accompanied Stefani with his guitar as they entertained a sizable live audience at the tailgate event. The “Ol’ Red” singer opted for a straightforward black monochromatic ensemble, while the “Luxurious” songstress embraced a Wild West aesthetic. Stefani sported a black and white ensemble accessorized with light pink satin open chaps, and her platinum blonde hair was styled in a high ponytail.

Following the debut of their new track, the Grammy winner treated the crowd to renditions of some of her classic hits, including “I’m Just a Girl” and “Hollaback Girl,” with enthusiastic participation from the audience.

Just two days prior to their joint performance, the couple unveiled a heartfelt track that seems to celebrate their relationship.

The song’s lyrics include lines such as: “But if someone comes along and tries to / Love you like I do / Don’t know what I’d do / Don’t want to lose you,” sung by Stefani, with later additions like: “No, I never knew a love like this. Now we’re picking / Purple irises.”

Shelton and Stefani have a history of collaborating on songs. They’ve previously worked together on country tunes like “Nobody But You” and “Happy Anywhere,” both of which topped the charts, as well as the holiday favorite “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” in 2017.

“Blake has transformed my life… when I started dating him,” Stefani shared with PEOPLE last year, reflecting on her relationship with Shelton. “That’s when I felt at home, like, ‘Oh, this is where I’m meant to be, with this guy.'”

The three-time Grammy winner has exciting musical plans ahead this spring, including a reunion with her band No Doubt at Coachella.

“It all came together so quickly, and those are the moments I cherish the most. We haven’t quite figured out the logistics yet, but we’re all just incredibly thrilled,” Stefani told PEOPLE last month. “Seeing the overwhelming excitement from the fans online? It’s fueling our excitement even more.”
